What can I expect from the Master of Leadership & Strategic Management?

In any organization, management performs the balancing act between economic responsibility for competitiveness, sales figures and growth on the one hand and leadership, motivation and organizational development on the other.

Determining corporate goals and searching for trends, innovation and competitive advantage not only requires creative and strategic thinking and action. Applied, scientifically based expertise and the targeted use of tools, for example analysis techniques, make all the difference in optimizing corporate and product strategies.

The most important key to corporate success, however, lies with the employees. What incentives does the company create to motivate employees even in difficult times? Which change processes do employees need to be prepared for and how can they be strategically integrated? These are just some of the challenges facing executives and managers. During your master’s year, you will build up the theoretical and practical know-how you need to act and make decisions with confidence.

You can find more information about the course content under “Content & Design”.

What do senior managers do?

Where do senior managers work?

Graduates of the program work in responsible positions in all industries, from small private companies to internationally operating corporate groups.

Possible fields of employment are in industrial and commercial companies, banks and finance, insurance companies, construction and real estate, Internet, media, IT groups, event management, tourism, as well as in the field of management consulting, services, non-profit organizations and associations.

What strategic tasks do senior managers take on?

In addition to professional experience and personal suitability, a graduate’s areas of responsibility are strongly dependent on the size and structure of the company. In general, the smaller the company, the faster you can qualify for management, top management and positions close to the executive board.

Managers work in all areas and departments of the company. They bear responsibility for personnel teams and organizational units.

The tasks are manifold, but in essence they involve:

  • Planning corporate goals and positioning the company
  • Human resources management and personnel leadership
  • Controlling the company organization and the value creation process
  • Strategy development (e.g. corporate strategy, brand strategy)
  • Implementation of business management (analysis) methods (e.g. industry analysis, competitor analysis, portfolio analysis, financing and investment calculations)

What are the future opportunities for senior managers?

The future opportunities are very good, because as a graduate you can work in all industries and in different professional fields. You are qualified for all tasks of corporate management, corporate planning and development, which allows you a wide range of tasks.

At present, you will find particularly good entry opportunities in the financial, retail, pharmaceutical and chemical industries and in the professional fields of purchasing, marketing, human resources or IT.

What do managers earn?

Your salary after your master’s degree depends on the industry, the size of the company and the type of company you work for. Other decisive factors are your previous (management) experience and, last but not least, the region in which you want to establish yourself professionally.

Your starting salary can differ significantly from that of a bachelor’s graduate. After completing your master’s degree, it will probably be on a scale of €36,000 to €50,000 euros per year, whereby your salary opportunities can increase rapidly with increasing responsibility, especially in the following four to five years.
