What is the programme about?
Creative professions operate differently from most others. Those working in sound engineering, design, film, or photography are often freelance—and even in salaried roles, no one expects you to simply wait for instructions. You plan, research, and make decisions independently, and must then present your results in a way that clients understand and value.
These very skills lie at the heart of the degree program. It is not about theory for theory’s sake, but about the methods that will help you succeed in your professional life:
What you will learn:
- Conducting reliable research. How do you determine if information is credible? This skill determines your ability to stay up to date throughout your career—especially in industries where technology and market conditions shift rapidly.
- Planning and executing complex projects. From initial concept to final handover: estimating resources, structuring workflows, identifying risks, and communicating with stakeholders.
- Documenting and presenting results. Even the best work is of little value if it isn’t presented clearly and comprehensibly—whether to clients, teams, or sponsors.
These competencies are the reason why a bachelor’s degree in the creative industry carries more weight than an additional certificate course: it empowers you to take on larger projects and assume responsibility for leading them.
In terms of your expertise, you remain firmly within your field. You carry out your projects within your area of specialization. At the same time, you actively engage with current developments in your industry—examining both new production methods (which naturally include AI-assisted tools—used as instruments, not as replacements for your creative decision-making) and the shifting demand for creative services and what that means for your own offerings.

1. Current topics in research and practice
In this module, you will gain a solid overview of current developments in your area of specialization—including shifts in production methods, such as the use of AI-driven tools, and changing demand for creative work. Above all, however, you will learn how to acquire this overview yourself: Which sources are reliable? How do I distinguish well-founded information from marketing? These research skills form the foundation that enables you to continue your professional development independently after your studies.
Assessment: preliminary proposal (20%), project literature review (80%
2. Your specialization as a sound expert
In the second stage of your studies, you will carry out an independent practical project within your area of specialization—sound engineering, media design, film, or photography. You will plan and execute the project, documenting your decisions in a reflective journal. If your project involves modern production tools, you will use them and provide a rationale for their application. You may align the project with your professional practice in terms of both subject matter and scheduling.
Assessment : Reflective Journal (20%), Project (80%)
3. Critical and contextual studies in Creative Media
This module prepares you for your final thesis. You will deepen your knowledge of research methods—including quantitative and qualitative data analysis—and explore the cultural, economic, and ethical context of your work. This includes examining the conditions under which creative work is produced and remunerated today. Finally, you will submit your proposal for the bachelor’s thesis.

4. Thesis
In the final module, you will write your bachelor’s thesis on a topic of your own choosing within your area of specialization. The topic may be practical, theoretical, technical, or historical in nature.

Admission Requirements
The Maltese regulations apply to admission to the Creative Media Bachelor Top-Up programme:
Students enrolling in this programme must hold at least a Higher National Diploma at MQF Level 5 (120 ECTS) in creative media, a related field of study, or an equivalent qualification.
The crucial element here is “or equivalent”. While a formal qualification at EQF/MQF Level 5 is the standard route, it is not the only one.
We can also admit applicants who possess an equivalent qualification in their field. This could be a relevant German vocational training qualification at DQR Level 4 (three to three-and-a-half years) combined with pertinent professional experience. Furthermore, several years of practical professional experience in the relevant specialisation—representing informally acquired qualifications—can also satisfy the admission requirements.
For you this means:
- Studying without NC (numerus clausus)
- Studying without a high school diploma
- Minimum age 21 years
- secondary school certificate
- Knowledge of German (C1)
- Knowledge of English (B2)
We would be happy to verify your credentials free of charge and without obligation to indicate your eligibility to this programme. Simply contact us by email at: beratung@triagon.mt or by phone: +49 089/ 45 35 218-0 .
