About Mannheim Lindenhof

Lindenhof is a district of Mannheim , which is located south of the city center. This district of just 2.34 km² is located not far from the Rhine, in the Rhine-Neckar triangle.

An estimated 14,500 of Mannheim’s 320,000 inhabitants live in this district.

In the Second World War , this district was devastated and experienced total reconstruction. The cityscape in the northern part is predominantly characterized by multi-storey residential complexes.

On the southern area of the main station is the Victoria Tower, a high-rise building with a diamond-shaped floor plan. At 97.5 meters, it is the tallest structure in the district. Well-known companies such as DB Regio and the ERGO Insurance Group are based here.

Other landmarks within the district include the three towers of the Johanneskirche, the Sankt Josefskirche and the Lanzturm, a former John Deere water tower.

Mannheim is not only known for its buildings, but also for some far-reaching inventions such as the first two-wheeler that Karl Drais built here in 1817. In 1880 Werner von Siemens developed the first electric elevator and just six years later Carl Benz’s first automobile was driving through the streets of Mannheim.

The 1908 Lindenhof football club in Mannheim , also known as MFC 08 Lindenhof, is also located here. The sports club has also been offering tennis since 1982 and there has been a women’s soccer team since 2001.

If you are interested in the history of the Lindenhof, you can find the historical Lindenhof educational trail with 38 information and theme signs at relevant locations in the district.
